What is CAR-T(chimeric antigen receptor-T) cell therapy?

CAR-T cell therapy is a type of treatment where your own immune cells, specifically T cells, are modified in a lab to better fight cancer. These cells are equipped with a feature called a Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR), which helps them recognize and attack specific proteins on the surface of cancer cells. Once these modified CAR-T cells are put back into your body, they seek out the cancer cells and work to destroy them. This therapy is a form of immunotherapy, which means it uses your body's own immune system to combat cancer.

Candidates for CAR-T therapy

Adults with large B-cell lymphoma that has come back or hasn't responded to treatment

1.
Patients whose cancer has come back or hasn't responded after two or more types of systemic therapy.
2.
Patients whose cancer has come back after a hematopoietic stem cell transplant.Patients whose cancer has come back after a hematopoietic stem cell transplant.
3.
Patients who aren't eligible for or can't have an autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplant.

Children and young adults up to 25 years old with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia

1.
Patients who haven't gone into remission after initial treatment.
2.
Patients whose cancer has come back after an allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant.
3.
Patients whose cancer has come back or hasn't responded after two or more types of systemic therapy.

Side Effects of CAR-T Therapy

You might experience side effects within a few weeks after receiving CAR-T therapy.

Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS)
high fever, chills, muscle and joint pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive sweating, rashes, loss of appetite, fatigue, headaches, dizziness, confusion, and weakness
Immune Effector Cell-Associated Neurotoxicity Syndrome (ICANS)
alertness or consciousness, delirium, anxiety, dizziness, tremors, headaches, confusion, agitation, seizures, difficulty speaking or understanding speech, and loss of balance
Infections
feeling of warmth, fever, chills, or shivering
