Guide to Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Donation

Donor Physical Examination

Hematopoietic Growth Promoting Agent
An injection is given for 4-5 days before the donation to produce a lot of hematopoietic stem cells in the peripheral blood.

Donor Hospitalization
Hospitalization from the day before the donation for 3-4 days.

Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Collection
Performed at the component donation room (takes about 5-6 hours). If the vascular condition is not good, a catheter is inserted.
This can happen after donation.

Precautions
- Aspirin is prohibited for 7 days before and after donation.
- No bathing or sauna for 3 days after discharge

Mobilization for Autologous Stem Cell Collection
Hematopoietic stem cells: stem cells that generate all types of blood cells.
Mobilization makes a large amount of hematopoietic stem cells in the marrow come out into the peripheral blood for collection.1. Anticancer treatment + Hematopoietic growth stimulant
- Administration of Anticancer Drugs (Check White Blood Cell Count)
- Administration of Hematopoietic Growth Stimulant
- Harvesting of Hematopoietic Stem Cells
Collection when the decreased white blood cell count due to decreased marrow function after anticancer treatment recovers
2. Hematopoietic Growth Stimulant
- Administration of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Growth Stimulant
- Collection of Hematopoietic Stem Cells
Collection after administering only hematopoietic growth stimulant for 3-5 days without anticancer treatment.
These side effects may occur.
- Whole body aches
- Bone, Joint, Muscle Pain
- Chills, Mild Fever
- Head heviness
If the above symptoms appear, take up to two acetaminophen (Tylenol) pills three times a day. ※ Avoid taking antipyretic analgesics such as ibuprofen and aspirin.
