Managing Your Central Venous Catheter After Insertion
Preparation
- 4 Hibiclens swabs
- dressing: change it every 7 days gauze: change it every 2 days
- clean hands wash for 30 seconds under running water
- Wear a mask

Before Disinfecting
- Remove the dressing or gauze starting from the bottom and moving up
- Inspect the insertion site for any irregularities If you notice any of the following symptoms, Erythema(Redness), Pain, Purulence(Pus), Bleeding please get in touch with your healthcare team.

Disinfection
- Start disinfecting from the insertion site and work your way outward
- After the disinfectant has dried, apply a new dressing or gauze Avoid blowing on the area
- Use each swab for 10 seconds and repeat the disinfection process at least three times
- Use the final swab to disinfect the Hickman line
